Summer Rules!!!!

It is official–SUMMER IS HERE!!! Yesterday was the last day of school in our district!!!!  I know many of you parents are sooooo glad that the busy schedule of the school year is done.  Both you and your child(ren) get a break!  With the summer comes lots of time and I know many of you have big goals!  Are you going to brush up on that speech sound that he or she is having difficulty with?  Are you going to work on Reading or Math?  I hope that you accomplish all of your goals that you have this summer.  But if you are anything like me then-there may be one or two days (or ten or twenty) that you find yourself with free time.  Not just an hour or two…but four to eight hours.  It is tempting to let the kids watch t.v. or play on that cell phone or tablet.  But I have found that once they start-it is hard to get them to stop.  I found a set of Summer Rules posted on Facebook by Melissa Latham and I just had to share:

Summer Rules

You may have as much time on the Ipad/TV as you would like- as long as all of these jobs have been done before you turn on the screen.

Have you:

·         Made your bed

·         Had breakfast

·         Dressed

·         Brushed your teeth

·         Brushed your hair

·         20 minutes of reading

·         20 minutes of writing or coloring

·         Clean up 1 room (TV room/bedroom)

·         Played outside for 30 minutes

·         Made or built something creative (lego, craft, sand, etc.)

·         Helped someone in the family (ask if there is a job you
can do if you can’t think of something yourself)

Then you can watch TV/Play on the Ipad

Isn’t this brilliant?  Even if your child goes to summer school or summer camp for most of the day–this would be a great way to have him/her wind down before bed.  Please give this one a try! You will be glad you did.  Have a wonderful summer!!!!!
